This is it. The last day of 2011. This year really went by fast for me. This was a year where so much happened in a short period of time. So much to remember and write about.

Be Thankful

Well it’s that time of year again. The Thanksgiving Day weekend. (almost sounds like a contradiction) I hear and read about 2 popular subjects regarding Thanksgiving: Food and shopping. I do agree that those two subjects are on my mind as well. However, this is not what I am writing about today. I ask myself this question, “What am I really thankful for?”

This makes me ponder and think for what I do have in my life. This also reminds me not to take my blessings for granted. Also, I am making it my personal goal to be a grateful person throughout the year.

So, let us remember this year to be thankful.

The Heat Wave is Back!

Oops! I spoke too soon. The awful heatwave is back! Not as bad as when it was at it’s peak this summer. But still, 106° is too much for me. I was hoping it would be different this August. That the weather pattern would reverse and it would cool off for the rest of the year. So, much for that idea.

Finally, the awful heatwave is over! The trees in my yard have lost most of there leaves and my pine tree lost most of its needles. The yard is a mess. Yet, fall is not even here.

This summer will be remembered as one of the worst heat waves in memory. It started out this year much sooner than normal. There is still no end in site. Of course, eventually, it will end. As far as I am concerned, the sooner, the better.

Name Calling is Not the Answer

I have been doing some research on the up coming election in Glenpool, Tuesday 4/4/11. For some reason, when there is disagreement, one group of elected officials calls the opposition, “Negative”. Do they not realize that when you can someone, “Negative” that makes you a negative person yourself?

Over the years, Glenpool has seen a lot of growth. This has led to much expansion in the schools. For some reason, the city council has taken it upon itself to build a new city hall and fire/police department building. This of course is paid with a city’s $28,000,000 of bond debt. The people did not get a chance to vote on this. I am amazed that something something so large can be passed by the council without a vote of the people. Look what happened last December! When there was a bond vote, it went down. I wonder why…

As a taxpayer, I am concerned about our massive national debt. We cannot spend our way out of a recession. The same is true with our state. Glenpool is a small city. Yet the current mayor is leaving his council position with the city millions in debt.

If Glenpool has an image problem, it is because it is not viewed as a destination city. It has had the image of a bedroom community. If anyone is interested in making Glenpool a real destination city, the need to solicit ODOT for some sign changes. That way when folks in Tulsa see a road sign for highway US 75 south, they will see the name Glenpool, not Okmulgee. That will have a branding effect on the minds of travelers on the road that Glenpool is a destination city.

In order to support this blog and myself, I run a small IT business here in Tulsa. It is listed on the links section of this blog. It is a computer repair service business. For the past 9 years since I’ve owned it, I have followed the, “Golden Rule”. This has helped many resolve customers (clients) problems with a definite answer. Nowadays, times have changed since I took it over in 2002. More corporate entities are in the field. Such as Telecoms (AT&T, Windstream, etc), Office Supply (Staples & Office Depot), and Foreign or out-of-state entities advertised online or in the phone book. They are extremely high priced and offer very impersonal service. What has happened to friendly professional certified service? It is still around. You may need to look around some. Who said, “Let it Snow!”???

Alright, who said, “Let it snow!”? Today, we got a record 14 inches of snow. In fact, they said it was a blizzard! Too much for me. Our drive way is covered up to my garage door with at least a foot of snow. Then there is a drift under the overhang that makes it impossible to pull out of my garage.
